Effects of Adding Perturbations to Phenotypic Parameters in Genetic Algorithms for Searching Robust Solutions

چکیده
We have proposed a scheme that extends the application of GAs to domains that require detection of robust solutions. We called this technique GAs/RS – GAs with a robust solution searching scheme. In the GAs/RS, a perturbation is added to the phenotypic feature once for evaluation of an individual, thereby reducing the chance of selecting sharp peaks. We refer to this method as a single-evaluation model (SEM). In this chapter, we introduce a natural variant of this method, a multi-evaluation-model (MEM), where perturbations are given more than once for evaluation of the individual, and we offer comparative studies on their convergence property. The results showed that for the GAs/RS with SEM the population converges to robust solutions faster than with the MEM, and as the number of evaluations increases, the convergence speed decreases. We may conclude that the GAs/RS with the SEM is more efficient than with the MEM. We also introduced a variation of the MEM, i.e., multievaluation model keeping the worst value (MEM-W), and provided a mathematical analysis.

A Comparative Study on the Effects of Adding Perturbations to Phenotypic Parameters in Genetic Algorithms with a Robust Solution Searching Scheme
We have proposed a scheme that extends the application of GAs to domains that require identification of robust solutions. We called this technique GAs/RS: GAs with a robust solution searching scheme. In the GAs/RS, a perturbation is added to the phenotypic feature once for each evaluating functional value of an individual, thereby reducing the chance of selecting sharp peaks. We refer to this m...
متن کاملPhenotypic and Genetic Factors Affecting on Reproductive Lifetime of Lori-Bakhtiari Ewes
In this study phenotypic and genetic factors affecting the reproductive efficiency of Lori-Bakhtiari ewes were determined using 8202 reproductive records of 2478 ewes collected at Shooli research station in the southwestern part of Iran (Shahrekord) during 1989 to 2012. Reproductive efficiency over all consecutive lambing opportunities were calculated by adding the total reproductive efficiency...
متن کاملA Hybrid Algorithm using Firefly, Genetic, and Local Search Algorithms
In this paper, a hybrid multi-objective algorithm consisting of features of genetic and firefly algorithms is presented. The algorithm starts with a set of fireflies (particles) that are randomly distributed in the solution space; these particles converge to the optimal solution of the problem during the evolutionary stages. Then, a local search plan is presented and implemented for searching s...
متن کاملMILP Formulation and Genetic Algorithm for Non-permutation Flow Shop Scheduling Problem with Availability Constraints
In this paper, we consider a flow shop scheduling problem with availability constraints (FSSPAC) for the objective of minimizing the makespan. In such a problem, machines are not continuously available for processing jobs due to preventive maintenance activities. We proposed a mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) model for this problem which can generate non-permutation schedules. Furthermor...
متن کاملEfficient and Robust Parameter Tuning for Heuristic Algorithms
The main advantage of heuristic or metaheuristic algorithms compared to exact optimization methods is their ability in handling large-scale instances within a reasonable time, albeit at the expense of losing a guarantee for achieving the optimal solution. Therefore, metaheuristic techniques are appropriate choices for solving NP-hard problems to near optimality. Since the parameters of heuristi...
